Storm calls go first
Through hail season, June to August, storm damage is booked ahead of routine work. You get a written report, not a sales visit.
Water stopped first
If water is entering the attic, we cover it first and argue about scope later. Most policies require you to prevent further damage.
Claim opened correctly
Right peril, right date of loss, right wording. A claim logged as “wear and tear” is very hard to reopen later.
Start with a free, photo-documented roof inspection
This is the single most useful hour you can spend after a storm. We walk every slope, mark hail strikes in test squares, photograph the flashing, vents and valleys, and hand you a written damage report with dates.
If there is claimable damage, that report is what you give your insurer. If there is not, we tell you that too, and you have not burned a claim on your record for nothing. Either way you owe us nothing.
We will never offer to cover your deductible. In Alberta that is insurance fraud, not a discount — and it is the clearest signal you are talking to a storm chaser rather than a local contractor.
One roof. One claim. One team accountable for both.
Eighteen roofing services, each written up the way an adjuster prices it. We inspect the whole roof system and handle the paperwork insurers need, so you are not coordinating five different people.

The question everyone starts with
Roof repair or roof replacement?
Neither answer is automatically the honest one. A roof with two decades left and one failed flashing detail does not need replacing; a roof on its third patch in three springs is costing you money one repair at a time.
When a repair is the right answer
Damage is local and the rest of the roof is sound: shingles still flex when you lift them, the granule cover is even, and the problem traces to one penetration, one valley or one wall junction. Wind damage confined to a rake edge, a leak at a pipe boot, a slope that lost a dozen tabs — all repairable, and all cheaper than the alternative. Roof repair in Edmonton sorts the eight kinds out and prices them; the common ones are roof leak repair, flashing repair and shingle repair and replacement.
When replacement is cheaper than the third repair
Shingles crack instead of bending, the same slope keeps failing in a new place, there is bruising across the field rather than in one spot, or the tear-off is going to expose decking anyway. Past roughly fifteen years in this climate, patching buys a season and voids the match. Roof replacement in Edmonton sets out what the work includes and how long it takes.
The inspection answers this in an hour, in writing, before anyone quotes you anything.
We deal with the damage.
And the paperwork.
A hail claim is won or lost in the paperwork. We document the damage the way an adjuster prices it, stand on the roof with them, and argue the line items when the first estimate comes back short.
- 01DocumentedSlope-by-slope photos, test squares, hail strike counts, and a written scope in the format your insurer expects.
- 02FiledWe help you open the claim with the right peril and date of loss, so it is not quietly logged as wear and tear.
- 03Adjuster metWe are on the roof with your adjuster. Damage missed at that meeting is damage you pay for yourself.
- 04SupplementedShort estimate? We submit a supplement with code items, disposal, and the steep or high-access charges that get dropped.
Alberta is Canada’s hail alley
Why Edmonton roofs fail
Four things this climate does to a roof
Edmonton sits in Canada’s hail corridor and then spends the rest of the year cycling through freeze and thaw. A roof here ages differently than the same roof in Vancouver, and insurers know it.
Summer hail
June to August. Stones of 1–2 cm are the sneaky ones: they knock the granules off and bruise the mat without breaking anything you can see from the driveway.
Prairie wind
Open exposure on the west and south edges of the city lifts shingle tabs and tears ridge cap. Wind damage is usually obvious — and usually covered.
Ice damming
Warm attic, cold eave, meltwater refreezing at the edge. The water then backs up under the shingles. Attic ventilation is the real fix, not a bigger gutter.
Freeze–thaw cycling
Repeated expansion and contraction opens nail holes and splits old sealant at every penetration. It is why a 20-year roof here rarely reaches 20 years.
Each of these gets a guide of its own in the Edmonton roofing guides — hail, ice damming, materials, costs and what insurers pay for.

Documentation
The four sets of photographs a roof claim needs
On an insurance job photographs are not marketing. They are the evidence the claim is paid on, and each set does a different job.
Pre-repair
Every slope, wide and close, dated, before a tarp goes on or a shingle comes off. This set establishes that the damage existed and where. It cannot be recreated afterwards.
Test squares and collateral
Measured squares with strikes counted, plus dents in gutters, vents and AC fins. This is the set that answers a wear-and-tear denial.
Tear-off and decking
Each failed sheet photographed in place with its location marked. This is what gets a decking supplement paid rather than argued about after the fact.
Completion
The finished roof slope by slope, sent with the final invoice. On an RCV policy this is the set that releases your held-back depreciation.
Before you hire anyone
Three documents that separate a local roofer from a storm chaser
This is a checklist to use on us and on everyone else you talk to. Do not take any of it on trust — every one of the three can be checked by you, from your kitchen table, in about ten minutes.
Prepaid contracting licence
In Alberta, any contractor who takes a deposit before the work is finished must hold one, issued by Service Alberta, and it is bonded. Ask for the number and search it on the Service Alberta business licence registry rather than accepting a photograph of a certificate.
WCB Alberta clearance letter
If an uninsured worker is hurt on your roof, the liability can land on the homeowner. A current clearance letter costs the contractor nothing to produce and is verifiable with WCB Alberta directly. Check the date on it.
Certificate of liability insurance
Two million dollars is the working minimum in this trade. Ask to be named on the certificate for the duration of the project, then check the expiry date and phone the insurer named on it rather than reading the logo.
Anyone who hesitates over those three has answered the question. The full contractor checklist has the rest of the questions, and what we will and will not claim about ourselves is on our about page.
Roofing across Edmonton and the Capital Region
Edmonton proper and the Capital Region. Summer hail, prairie wind, ice dams and freeze–thaw cycles attack different parts of a roof, and our inspections look past the obvious impact marks to flashing, vents, underlayment and decking.
If your roof is inside the Anthony Henday, we are usually there the next morning.
Questions Edmonton homeowners actually ask
Will my insurance actually cover a new roof in Alberta?
If the damage came from a covered peril and your policy is a standard Alberta homeowner form, then yes. Hail, wind, falling branches and the weight of ice or snow are covered perils on almost every policy sold here. What is not covered is age, granule loss from ordinary weathering, poor original installation, and damage you knew about and left alone. That distinction is exactly why the inspection report matters: it separates storm damage from wear, in writing, with dated photos.
Who pays the deductible, and can you cover it for me?
You pay it. We cannot cover it, discount it, or make it disappear in the invoice, and any contractor who offers to is describing insurance fraud out loud. In Alberta that exposes both of you. A roofer who will defraud your insurer on day one is not a roofer you want on your roof on day two. If the deductible is the problem, ask us about financing instead — that is legal and it is how most people bridge it.
How fast can you get here after a hailstorm?
Ask for a date when you call, and hold whoever you hire to it in writing. The thing worth understanding is that there are two queues, not one. After a major Edmonton hail event every roofer in the city is booked at once and the queue for the build can run weeks — that is normal and it is not a warning sign. The queue for the inspection and the claim is the one with a deadline attached, because your policy expects prompt notice and the evidence degrades as soon as repairs start. Get the roof documented first; the build can wait its turn. The order the whole thing runs in is on the Alberta hail claim guide.
Should I file the claim before or after the inspection?
Inspect first, in almost every case. Once you open a claim it is on your record whether or not it pays out. An inspection tells you if there is real, documentable damage worth claiming, and it gives you the date of loss and the peril to quote when you call. The exception is active water entry — then call your insurer immediately, because most policies require you to prevent further damage.
What if the adjuster says the damage is just wear and tear?
That is the most common denial in this city and it is frequently wrong. Hail bruising does not look like much from the ground: the granules come off, the asphalt mat underneath is fractured, and the shingle fails two winters later. We photograph test squares, mark strikes, and if needed request a re-inspection or an independent adjuster. See what to do with a denied roof claim.
What does a roof replacement cost in Edmonton if insurance does not pay?
For asphalt shingles on a typical Edmonton house, budget roughly $7,500 to $17,000 CAD, which works out to about $4.50 to $8.50 per square foot installed. Steep pitch, a second storey, multiple valleys, and rotten decking push it up. We put the range in writing before we start. Detail: Edmonton roof replacement cost.
Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Edmonton?
A straight like-for-like shingle replacement is usually treated as maintenance, while work that touches the structure — new decking layout, truss repair, changing the roof line — needs a permit from the City of Edmonton. Because the City updates these rules, we confirm the current requirement for your scope before we book the build rather than guessing. Permit cost, where one applies, goes in the written quote.
A crew knocked on my door after the storm. Should I sign?
Not that day. Out-of-province storm-chasing crews arrive in Edmonton within days of a hail event, sign as many doors as they can, and leave before the warranty matters. Before anyone signs anything, check three things: an Alberta prepaid contracting licence (required to take a deposit), a current WCB Alberta clearance letter, and a certificate of liability insurance. All three are verifiable in minutes. That applies to us as much as to anyone at your door — ask, and check the registry rather than the badge on the truck. How to spot a storm chaser.
How do I check that an Edmonton roofing company is legitimate?
Three lookups, about ten minutes, and you do them yourself rather than taking anyone's word for it. Search the company name on the Service Alberta business licence registry — a prepaid contracting licence is required before a contractor may take a deposit. Ask for a current clearance letter and verify it with WCB Alberta. Then ask the insurer named on the certificate of liability insurance to confirm it is in date. The full contractor checklist has the questions worth asking after that.
Roof damaged? Start with the report, not the quote.
A free, photo-documented inspection is what turns a phone call to your insurer into a paid claim. It costs you nothing and takes about an hour.
