Emergency Roof Tarping in Edmonton, AB

Same-day temporary cover when water is coming in. Stop the damage first, sort the claim second.

Free inspection

Book a free emergency roof tarping assessment

When a storm opens a roof, the roof is no longer the expensive problem. Water moving through insulation, drywall, flooring and contents is, and it compounds by the hour. Your policy almost certainly requires you to prevent further damage — and pays you back for doing it.

Tarping is triage. It is not a repair and it is not meant to look good. It is meant to be watertight, to survive Edmonton wind, and to stay on until the claim is scoped and the build is scheduled.

Edmonton market range, CAD$450–$1,600

The real number depends on pitch, access, decking and the size of the roof. Yours goes in writing after the inspection and before any work starts.

Free inspection and written report

Photo-documented, dated, and formatted for an insurance claim.

We call back the same business day. We never ask for payment before the insurer has confirmed scope, and we never offer to cover your deductible.

Scope

What the work includes

  • Same-day response. For active water entry. Call rather than filling in the form if water is coming in right now.
  • Properly fastened cover. Heavy-duty poly, wrapped on battens and fastened into sound structure, with the seams shingled so water runs over rather than under. Not held down with bricks.
  • Board-up where needed. Where structure or sheathing is gone rather than just the shingles.
  • Interior protection. Puncturing a bulging ceiling to drain it in a controlled way prevents a much bigger collapse. We will do it, and photograph it first.
  • Full documentation before covering. Every photograph taken before the tarp goes on. Once covered, the evidence is hidden — adjusters need to see what was there.
  • Itemised invoice for the insurer. Mitigation costs are normally reimbursed on top of the repair. You need the paperwork in the right format to claim them.

Signs

When you need this

Any one of these is worth an inspection. Several together usually means a claim.

  • Water actively dripping into a room or running down a wall
  • A ceiling bulging or sagging under trapped water
  • A section of roof or sheathing visibly open to the sky
  • A tree or large branch down on the roof
  • Wind has removed a substantial area of shingles with rain forecast
  • Flashing torn away from a chimney or wall during a storm

Insurance

How this looks as a claim

Two things to know. First, you are normally required to mitigate, and failing to can reduce what the insurer pays for the resulting interior damage. Second, the cost of mitigating is normally reimbursed — so keep every receipt and make sure the invoice is itemised.

Photograph everything before the tarp goes on. This is the one point in the process where acting fast and documenting properly are in tension, and the answer is to do both: photos, then tarp, then call.

How Edmonton roof claims work

A clear path forward

From storm to finished roof

  1. 1

    Call or send the form

    Same business day

Tell us what happened and when. Date of loss matters more than people expect.

  2. 2

    Free inspection and report

Date agreed on that first call

We walk the roof, photograph every slope, and hand you a written damage report.

  3. 3

    You open the claim

    Day 1 to 3

You make the call to your insurer. We give you the report, the peril, and the wording.

  4. 4

    Adjuster meeting

    Usually 3 to 14 days

We meet them on site and walk the damage together, so nothing is missed or minimised.

  5. 5

    Build and sign-off

1 to 3 days on a typical house

Tear-off, deck check, ice-and-water membrane, new system, clean-up, final photos.

Price and timing

What it costs and how long it takes

Edmonton market range: $450 - $1,600 CAD. Market range from published Edmonton price guides, not a quote. Your number goes in writing after the inspection.

A tarp is a temporary measure with a real lifespan. Properly installed it will hold for weeks, not months. Alberta wind and UV degrade poly steadily, and a tarp that has been up all summer is no longer doing its job.

If the claim is moving slowly and the tarp is ageing, tell us. Re-tarping is cheaper than the interior damage, and it is also a reimbursable mitigation cost.

Once the water is stopped, the permanent work is whichever repair fits the damage: roof repair in Edmonton sorts them out, and on a garage or addition it is flat roof repair, which cannot be done properly in freezing weather anyway.

Where the work is covered by insurance, the number that matters is the insurer’s approved scope plus your deductible, not the sticker price. We prepare the scope, submit supplements for anything missing, and you see every line.

Straight answers

Emergency Roof Tarping: common questions

How fast can you get here?

Same day for active water entry in Edmonton and the Capital Region, weather and daylight permitting. After a citywide storm we triage by severity — water inside the house comes first.

Will tarping hurt my claim?

The opposite. Failing to mitigate hurts your claim. Photograph the damage before covering it and keep the invoice.

Can I tarp it myself?

You can, and if it is safe to do so from inside or from a low roof, do. Do not go onto a wet, steep or storm-damaged roof. A fall costs more than a tarp, and a poorly fastened tarp in prairie wind becomes a sail.

Where we work

Where we do this work

Edmonton proper and the Capital Region. Summer hail, prairie wind, ice dams and freeze–thaw cycles attack different parts of a roof, and our inspections look past the obvious impact marks to flashing, vents, underlayment and decking.

If your roof is inside the Anthony Henday, we are usually there the next morning.

Worried about what the last storm did?

Roof damaged? Start with the report, not the quote.

A free, photo-documented inspection is what turns a phone call to your insurer into a paid claim. It costs you nothing and takes about an hour.
